Call for Papers

The 4th Annual Biotechnology and Bioinformatics Symposium (BIOT-07) will be held in Colorado Springs, CO, on October 19 and 20, 2007.

History

The symposium started in Colorado Springs in 2004 and was held at the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs in 2004 and 2005. It was held at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah in 2006. The symposium attracts regional, national and international authors for paper presentation. Selected papers from the Symposium have been published in special issues of the International Journal of Bioinformatics Research and Applications. The symposium has already attained a high level of reputation.

Objectives

The symposium's objective is to showcase research and development activities in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, and Biotechnology and to promote future interdisciplinary activity and research in these areas. Like previous years, BIOT-2007 will bring together scientists, engineers and other practitioners from Biotechnology, Bioinformatics and the Medical research community.

Each field that BIOT attracts has its own tradition. For example, in Computer Science, it is traditional to require submission of full papers for review several months prior to a conference or symposium. Conferences in other disciplines generally require that an abstract or extended abstract be submitted for review. Although this crossover meeting will bring together people from fields where the publishing paradigm is different, we have decided on the following. Authors are required to submit a 2-page abstract or summary of their paper for review. Such an abstract should have the format of a regular paper although short in length. If an abstract is accepted, the author(s) will be asked to submit full papers of up to 6 pages in length. The Symposium proceedings will contain the full-length papers.

Major themes, areas and suggested topics include

We invite papers in any area of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics, theoretical as well as practical. Here is a list of topics: Analysis of complex biological systems, Bioenergetics, Biomedical research, Biotechnology, Cellular function, Comparative genomics, Data mining in Bioinformatics and Biotechnology, Databases in Bioinformatics and Biotechnology, Drug delivery systems, Evolution models, Functional genomics, Genetics, Gene identification, Genomics, High performance computing in Bioinformatics and Biotechnology, Mathematical and computational models of cellular systems, Mathematical models of biophysical processes, Mathematical physiology, Microarray analysis, Molecular function, Molecular sequence and structure, Microarray analysis, Neural circuits modeling, Ontologies for Bioinformatics and Biotechnology, Pathways, Pattern recognition, Phylogenetics, Physiology, Population biology, Promoter analysis and discovery, Protein structure and analysis, RNAi analysis, Sequence alignments, SNPs, Systems biology, Theoretical and mathematical biology. Additional topics include Commercial applications of biotechnology and bioinformatics, Industrial applications of biotechnology and bioinformatics, Legal impacts of biotechnology and bioinformatics, Social impacts of bioinformatics and biotechnology, Technology transfer and Venture capital for biotechnology and bioinformatics industry,.

Submissions

An extended abstract must report significant research results, findings or advances within its own field. However, since the symposium is geared toward a diverse audience of biologists, computer scientists, chemists, engineers, technology transfer individuals, graduate students, professors, industry individuals, etc., the papers or extended abstracts must be presented in a lucid manner accessible to such individuals.

You should submit a two-page, single-spaced extended abstract by the submission date given below. Use the IEEE author style available at http://www.ieee.org/web/publications/authors/transjnl/index.html . Each extended abstract must be in 2-column format. The extended abstract must show the names of the authors, their mailing and electronic addresses, and up to 3 keywords. An extended abstract must contain a paragraph summary of work followed by additional sections. Please note that sections in an extended abstract must contain enough information so that reviewers can judge the quality of work being reported. Thus, an extended abstract is like a mini paper. Each extended abstract will be reviewed.

Full Paper Submission

If your extended abstract is accepted, you must submit a full paper of up to a maximum of 6 pages by the submission date given below. Please follow the IEEE Transactions author style. The format is mandatory. When every paper follows a consistent format, the Proceedings look nice and professional. Each paper must be in 2-column format. The paper must show the names of the authors, their mailing and electronic addresses, and up to 3 keywords on the top page. Each paper must contain a paragraph abstract or summary followed by other sections You must submit a camera-ready paper by the date specified below. The papers will be printed in the Symposium proceedings.

Submission Procedure

PDF submissions are accepted through an automated submission system .
